At a commanding 12" high, it has the substantial weight and crisp white finish that made English ironstone the gold standard of durable, beautiful tableware throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. 

Alfred Meakin, produced in Tunstall, Staffordshire, England, is a name synonymous with quality ironstone. This pitcher, produced between 1891 and 1897, is a fine example of the brand at its best. Use it as the functional serving piece it was made to be, fill it with flowers, or intermingle it with shells, cobalt blue glass, and patinaed wood for a coastal display.
